Photo modes are nothing new to the world of video games. The last few years have seen some of the best ways for us gamers to capture our in game moments. From beautiful and artistic driven shots to funny and meme-like images, photo modes can really help to extend the life of a video game. This is why I was so pleasantly surprised when trying out PS4’s Spiderman’s photo mode.
Simply put, it is probably the most fun I’ve had with such game feature for a long while. Sure my love of Spidey does make me slightly unbiased, but just take a look at some of those screenshots… The truth is that this photo mode looks good, and it handles just as well as it looks!
Spiderman’s photo mode is awesome!
Insomniac’s Spiderman brings photo mode to the next level. In fact it is probably the second thing I’ve enjoyed doing the most, after swinging around New York. I simply cannot get enough of doing those two things, and I am sure I’m not the only one to feel this way.
And this is saying something, as I am not one to post much on Social Media. I generally shy away from showing too many pictures of myself in real life, but when it comes to making Spider-Selfies, then it’s a whole different thing altogether!
Photo modes always appeal to me, but I guess PS4’s Spiderman just makes them more fun. There seems to be so much more going on the screen that looks fun. Even the photo mode in Uncharted 4, as excellent as it is, cannot quite beat what our Spidey has to offer.
Why is this photo mode better than others?
So what makes the Spiderman photo mode so good? Is it the bright saturated colour scheme favoured by the recent Marvel Universe, the quality of the graphics or the great lighting? Or is it the fact that Spidey’s New York feels so alive?
Really, it is all of those aspects combined with a great choice of photo options. The camera is easily adjustable, you can change the focus levels and add different filters… the list goes on, and this is not to mention Spidey’s cunning ability at posing for selfies!
To top it all, I can say that the gameplay itself lends to great photographic moments. Spidey’s ability to slow down time mid-air or in the middle of an epic fight allows you to find that perfect shot. In terms of real life, this would be a photographer’s dream come true.
Is it just vanity or art?
Does this photo mode makes me feel like I’ve taken some great pictures? Does it boost my ego in that respect? I think it absolutely does, and this is the first time a photo mode has actually given me such feeling. It makes me wonder whether I’ve missed possible career in photography!
I want to show those photos because I feel like I’ve captured the right moment and used all the right angles. My photos feel unique to me, like someone else might not be able to capture that specific moment the way I did. There sits this photo mode’s real underlying strength.
Then there is the fact that Spiderman’s New York lends itself so well to photos. This is the more artistic side of the game. The models look great, the colours and lighting are just superb… Altogether this photo mode does a superb job at capturing the art of the game, whilst also giving me a well needed ego boost.
Just a few more pics…
