Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious Review

Genre Publisher Release date Release O.S Available on
Racer Microsoft 27/03/2015 Xbox One, Xbox 360 Xbox Live

Combining the vast, wonderful world of Forza with the thrill, exhilaration and trials of Fast and Furious truly creates a visual array of serenity. Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious does its best at capturing such eye popping panorama without compromising on the richly detailed and amusing experience Forza is known so well for offering.

Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious has the player driving around the South of France in Nice. Driving around the South of France provides a gateway into a passage of graphical appreciation. Scenes almost so graphically crafted as if you were there viewing the scenery in real life with your own eyes.

This expansion has the player completing various challenges and races for Fast & Furious’ Ludacris and in return earning new, rare and collectable cars from the theatrical release of Fast and Furious 7. Drag and speed challenges are just some of those available alongside various races. There are a total of ten exciting cars to unlock including the incredibly powerful (and fast!) Bugatti Veyron.

The story is not very long by comparison to the Forza Horizon 2 base game and could improve with more characters, more cars and more missions although, given the game to be a snippet into both the worlds and universes of Forza and Fast & Furious this is to be expected.

The game acts as a standalone expansion for Forza Horizon 2. You do not need to own Forza Horizon 2 in order to play this add-on. Instead imagine it as a very generous demo showcasing the beauty of Forza with additional (and very intuitive) partnership implementation that allows you to feel the exhaust with Fast & Furious.

Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious has similar mechanics as Forza Horizon 2, with its popular and familiar control layout. There is a special new feature added to follow suite with the Fast & Furious vehicles however, the ability to use nitrous. Sadly it is not accessible at all points in the game but it is certainly an entertaining and interesting feature.

The cars have been engineered to mirror what their real life counterparts would exhaust in performance embracing the luxury car simulation effectively (as Forza has been known for with previous iterations) to a whole new level. When playing the player feels as if they not only have to drive the available cars but learn them, their performance against terrain, stability and control. Under Fast and Furious environments that’s one tough but exciting challenge!

Graphical quality does however vary by platform. Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious is available (at the time of writing) as an exclusive to the Xbox platform.
Xbox One has a significantly sharper and detailed graphical approach than its predecessor, the Xbox 360 (which is to be expected).

The add-on delivers the same heart-warming, car loving experience to Xbox 360 as it does the Xbox One but the former’s hardware limitations are noticeable in comparison to the latter (which is to be expected).

The Xbox 360 is still capable to provide a sleek and polished experience rendering both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One able to relish the player’s experience unhindered and as intended without significant and noticeable fluctuation of system performance levels.

Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious has a distinctive and interesting partnership and approach with the Fast and Furious 7 movie releasing in theatres 3rd April in fact, the game is releasing free for a limited time in celebration if the release of the film. Taken from Xbox.com: “To celebrate the April 3 theatrical launch of “Furious 7,” the standalone expansion will be available at no charge for a limited two-week period. Players can download the expansion on Xbox One or Xbox 360 (at no charge!) from March 27 through April 10.Players who downloaded it during the initial two-week window can continue to play without restriction.”

Impressively stunning, if somewhat simple racing expansion. It may be an obvious promotional tool for Furious 7, but when the package is free who can argue. Remember, during the dates of the 27th March 2015 and 10th April 2015 you can download Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious for free on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

  • It’s free!
  • Good selection of cars
  • Visually stunning
  • Nitrous is a nice touch
  • Doesn’t really do anything truly unique
  • Fast and Furious brand feels a little wasted
  • Very short

Summary: A visual masterpiece. Great concept brought to life of a movie and video game collaboration (it would be awesome to see this with other titles). Fun, fresh, interesting and worth the time investing to indulge in playing (especially whilst free - there's also 1000G up for grabs!)
